Richmond Chambers is pleased to announce the launch of our comprehensive AI Governance Guide, a significant step in our ongoing commitment to deploying technology with foresight and integrity.
We believe this initiative positions Richmond Chambers at the forefront of such frameworks, potentially being a first for a barristers’ chambers across the Commonwealth.
To support our members in harnessing AI’s potential, responsibly and ethically, we have developed this Guide. It emphasises that while innovative tools offer new efficiencies, the professional judgment, accountability, and paramount duties of our barristers to clients and the courts remain central.
Josh McBride of Richmond Chambers commented, “The increasing integration of AI into legal practice is undeniable. Our AI Governance Guide is designed to empower our members. It provides a robust framework for making discerning choices about AI utilisation, always prioritising client confidentiality, data security, and our core professional obligations.”
This is an emergent field, and we view our AI Governance Guide as a “living document.” It is intended to evolve, incorporating best practices from the New Zealand Law Society Te Kāhui Ture o Aotearoa, and adapting to new ethical considerations and regulatory developments as they arise. We see this as the commencement of a vital discussion, rather than a definitive statement. Hence we are introducing it on our Matapaki page.
We are proud to share this development and contribute to the broader conversation within the legal community on the thoughtful and ethical engagement with artificial intelligence. While we understand this comprehensive approach to AI governance may be a novel one for a barristers’ set within the Commonwealth, we are always open to learning from others and welcome any information on similar endeavours.
The Richmond Chambers AI Governance Guide is now available here for review and comment.
We encourage you to explore its contents and look forward to the ongoing dialogue as we collectively explore the implications of AI for the future of legal practice.
