Biography

Erin is a leading advocate in employment law. Her practice spans advisory work, advocacy in the Courts, independent investigations, and mediation across the full spectrum of employment law. This includes workplace fraud and investigations, disputes about status (employee/contractor issues), personal grievances (including for redundancy and misconduct), health and safety, discrimination, harassment, contractual disputes, compliance, and union matters.

Erin commenced practice as a barrister sole in July 2024. Prior to that, she was a senior partner at Meredith Connell for nearly 10 years, founding and leading its employment law team. She worked for Minter Ellison Rudd Watts as a Senior Associate until 2005 and was lead employment partner at Brookfields Lawyers until 2012. Erin has practised law in Australia and New Zealand.

Erin is also a qualified independent investigator, with a specialist focus in workplace, sport, and education. Erin is an Associate Member of the Arbitrators and Mediators Institute of New Zealand (AMINZ). She is also a member of the Association of Workplace Investigators (AWI) and has held the AWI-CH qualification since 2017. She was appointed to the panel as an expert mediator and investigator for Sport and Recreation Complaints and Mediation Service (SRCMS) in 2023. Erin is on the Board of Trustees for one of New Zealand’s largest boy’s schools. She is also a member of the New Zealand Bar Association Employment & Privacy Law Committee.

Erin is authorised by the New Zealand Law Society to take direct instructions from clients.

Erin has worked in large commercial and litigation law firms for almost 30 years.

She is a trusted and experienced advisor on non-contentious employment law issues, including for mergers and acquisitions, restructuring and compliance, helping clients to navigate employment law regulations and minimise legal risks.

When matters are contentious, Erin is an expert in finding solutions, providing strategic insights and offering comprehensive support and representation at mediations and in litigation.

 

Workplace, Sports and Education Investigations

As a qualified and experienced workplace investigator and an Association of Workplace Investigators Certificate Holder (AWI_CH), Erin conducts independent investigations and culture reviews in the workplace, sporting, and education environments.

Erin is regularly called upon to investigate complaints about inappropriate behaviour in these environments, which requires an equal balance of empathy, efficiency, and excellent judgment.

Where clients conduct internal investigations, Erin provides assistance and guidance on process and recommendations, including around culture, training and development or disciplinary processes.

 

Dispute Resolution & Litigation

Erin is a qualified and experienced mediator. When there is conflict in workplace, sports and educational environments, Erin is experienced in implementing effective resolution strategies that are commercial and pragmatic.

This means Erin helps parties reach solutions that are workable and futureproof. She is also an experienced advocate in mediations and in litigation in the specialist employment forums.
