Biography

Julia is a commercial litigator with more than 20 years’ experience advising on a broad range of disputes. She has acted for government departments, regulators, listed companies and private entities and individuals in relation to regulatory proceedings, contractual and lease disputes, construction and infrastructure claims, tort claims, and matters arising under the Fair Trading Act.

Julia began her career at Wilson Harle, before moving to London where she worked at a specialist fraud firm and was involved in substantial multi-jurisdictional fraud litigation. Her experience included proceedings in Singapore, Cyprus, the British Virgin Islands and the Netherlands.

After returning to New Zealand in 2010, Julia joined Meredith Connell, becoming a partner in the commercial litigation team in 2018. There, she acted on a wide range of commercial litigation matters, including what was one of New Zealand’s first product liability claims brought by the Ministry of Education against James Hardie and Carter Holt Harvey in respect of thousands of school buildings nationwide.

Julia is experienced in managing large and technically complex proceedings, while also regularly acting on smaller claims for private companies and individuals. She appears in the New Zealand Courts, but is also experienced in alternative dispute resolution procedures, often acting in arbitrations and construction adjudications.  Julia works closely with clients to develop clear, strategic and commercially focused approaches to dispute resolution.
